Moderation, to me, means listening, framing the discussion, and knowing exactly when to hand over the microphone, whether in a large plenary or around a small round table.
Rhetoric that carries
In front of an audience, a message either lands or it doesn't. I get technical topics across clearly and stay composed even under tough questions. I've completed rhetoric trainings myself and have already spoken in front of groups of various sizes, in German as well as in English. That has included international audiences, among them representatives of European networks and institutions, both online and in person.
What could be more excellent [...] than to speak in a way that is correct, clear, elegant, and fitting for the subject at hand?
Moderating for the future: the TalentWerk
Modelled on maker-space concepts, a "TalentWerk" is being built in the Verbandsgemeinde Bad Marienberg, funded under the "Regional Future Programme" of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. For the working group "Schule, Wirtschaft und Verwaltung" (schools, business and administration), I moderate the planning process on a voluntary basis, from the requirements for the space itself to the technology it will need: an example of complex, technical topics made accessible for committees, and decision-making actively guided along the way.
My own series of talks on core digital topics
Over several years, my own talks were developed and delivered at varying intervals for clients: from the opportunities and limits of artificial intelligence, through cybercrime and internet security, to password safety and the opportunities and risks of social media for businesses. Made accessible for a non-technical audience.
